Ricky Weiss won his fourth NLRA feature of the season, and 17th overall, Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, MB. Weiss started second and lead all 25 laps. Dustin Strand finished second, with Mike Balcaen third, Brad Seng fourth, and Cole Schill fifth. Bill Mooney was the hard charger, improving seven spots, from his original 14th place starting spot. Weiss, Balcaen, and Schill won the heats. NLRA series action continues on July 18th at the Devils Lake Speedway, near Doyon, ND. The NLRA embarked on a grueling five race stretch last week, and only saw one event lost to rain, and two different winners. The action began an hour late on Wednesday night at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, as a rain storm that his just before six o'clock. Ricky Weiss, driver of the No. 7 Derrick's Sandblasting Bloomquist, pulled away from a hard charging Don Shaw, and lead the final 21 laps to win his 14th career NLRA main event. The win gave Weiss sole posession of fourth on the all-time wins list, breaking a tie he held with Mitch Johnson.
The Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, and the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks fell victim to rain again last week. NLRA Series regular Cole Schill finished fifth at the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls last Friday night, Don Shaw was the winner. Another series regular, Mike Balcaen scored a pair of top fives last weekend in Mandan and Minot, ND. Donny Schatz took the opportunity to race at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN after the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars were rained out in Michigan, and it paid dividends with a win. Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport Mars MB Custom lead all 25 laps, collecting his third win of the 2014 NLRA season last Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The victory was also Seng's 23rd career series victory, as he now sits three wins behind the late John Seitz for most in series history. Seng blasted out to an early lead, but was followed closely by Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Victory Circle. Seng's initial lead was erased by an incident involving Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Lithia Toyota/Pizza Ranch Rocket and Winnipeg regular Rick Fawcett.

This Thursday night July the 17th, the NLRA will try to take mother nature out of the win column and race at the Red River Co-op Speedway near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The race is scheduled to be the series' 23rd appearance at the four-tenths mile oval that sits five minutes south of Winnipeg on Highway 75. The NLRA's first event was held at the track when it was the Victory Lane Speedway in June 1998 with Howie Schill becoming the first winner in series history. Many NLRA series regulars have remained active since the the final NLRA series event at the River Cities Speedway on September 5th. Many NLRA series regulars competed at the 42nd annual Stock Car Stampede at the Jamestown Speedway last weekend. Jeremy Keller of Mandan, ND drove his No. 11K to back-to-back victories at the Stampede. NLRA'ers that took part in the action at Jamestown included Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport Mars MB Custom, who followed up his second John Seitz Memorial victory with a fourth place run at the Stampede. The NLRA's final road trip of the 2013 season features its' customary Labor Day double header at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN, this year featuring a new twist. Action will begin on Saturday night, August the 31st, with the series' 30th appearance on the Douglas County Fairgrounds half mile oval. On Sunday night, September the 1st, the series will take part in the speedway's inaugural '4444' race, where 26 drivers will have a chance to win $4,444 for winning the 44 lap main event. World of Outlaws Sprint Car Champion Donny Schatz, and NLRA series regular Bill Mooney captured NLRA series victories last weekend at the River Cities and Devils Lake Speedways. Friday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND, Donny Schatz won his first NLRA series feature with a last lap pass on Joey Pederson. Schatz started second and took the point from pole sitter Brian Bernotas at the start. Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors Mars MB Custom passed Schatz for the lead on lap eight and held the lead until the leaders ran into heavy lap traffic with five to go. Two NLRA drivers remained hot at local tracks last week, as Joey Pederson, and Steffen Snare picked up victories. Last Thursday night, Steffen Snare, driver of the No. 71 Todd's Electric Swartz, captured his second win of the season at the Red River Co-Op Speedway near Winnipeg, MB. Then on Friday night, Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors Mars MB Custom, remained undefeated this season at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND, winning his third race in as many nights. Some other NLRA regulars who had strong runs include Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Victory Circle, who scored a pair of top five finishes, both in Winnipeg and Grand Forks. |
